Dr. Yu still hopes to plant a partner with the four steps, yet a lovely house has landed in his life unexpectedly
Otorhinolaryngology specialist Dr. Yu has an interesting nickname: “Runner”. He has requested that this hour-long interview be finished within 40 minutes because he will run to Starbucks and do the 4 steps afterwards. He also needs to run some errands for his friends in the Monk Meets the Diamond book club, he always tries his best to take care of them.
Today we have a rare opportunity to sit down with him and listen to his story of an unexpected house which he manifested with a four-step plan. According to him, this wonderful house came with refined decor at an unbelievably good price. He says, “When the seeds ripen, you cannot stop them. This house came to me naturally. Actually, my goal was…,” he pauses in silence with a hint of embarrassment.
“My goal was to plant a partner. However, the fact that this house manifested makes me believe that my partner will soon arrive.”
Doctor is a profession which appeals to women when it comes to marriage. Women take initiative to meet him. Like other fellow doctors, people tried to set Dr. Yu up on dates, and he has tried to meet people with the help of matchmakers. And yet the lady of his dreams has still not shown up. Sometimes a seemingly ideal woman would appear, but soon would be gone. Since March 2019, he started to attend Geshe Michael’s talks, then joined a Monk Meets the Diamond book club in Taipei.
The book club gathers weekly, so he frequently travels between his home, the clinic in South, and the book club in the North, but he never seems to be tired. In July, he registered for the Taipei four-step workshop offered by the Taiwanese organizer and was ready to put the theory into practice.
“Regarding the four steps, the first step is to have to have a clear goal.” He recollected. “It has to come from an altruistic motivation.” He smiled and continued, “I was not that desperate to own a house, but I realized my parents were getting old. In order to meet their needs, I wanted to find a place and convert it into a senior friendly home. I could not do that with a rental. I was not in a hurry at all. My parents still haven’t moved in yet although the house is available now.”
For “Steps two and three,” he recounted how he helped his karmic partner to get the same thing—a house, a brand-new one, with a good price! The first seed I planted was to help look for a space for the Tainan book club. “That was the seed to plant a space.”
This interview is an opportunity for him to review the seeds he planted and why such a beautiful house came in such a powerful way. He went on to say, “Every day, I donate 10 NT to New Taiwan Volunteer Group. They build houses for the poor. I do coffee meditation when I put the coins in the jar! It’s not that complicated. I simply hope that low income families can have a place to live. It’s just a simple wish. In addition, I celebrate others’ success when they make a deal. When I go to Taipei and take a taxi, I usually ask the driver to keep the change when I pay. I also supported and helped with the fundraising for a project that is building a space for the mentally challenged.”
The seeds planted in a difficult time are extremely powerful.
He attended a DCI level 4 workshop with his classmates in Hong Kong. On the day they planned to return to Taiwan, the airport was shut down. The group of Taiwanese students decided to transfer back home from Macau instead. This situation cost them extra for accommodation, which was an additional financial burden for some of them. Runner described how everyone felt disheartened.
He helped the group to check-in and paid everyone’s accommodation with his credit card. It was not much to him, just around 20, 000 NTD (about 700-900SD). “It solved their problem of needing a space.” He recalled casually. This matter-of-fact attitude adds to his charm.
訪談途中，他重覆寫下他種出房子的關鍵種子並且傳到LineDuring the interview, he wrote down the key seeds that he planted to plant the house and shared the information to Line.

The wonderful house that arrived in a powerful way
Runner recalled Geshe Michael said the best way to plant seeds is to relax and to have fun!
“This wonderful house is simply beyond anything I could have imagined!” exclaimed Dr. Yu. He continues, “I was hoping to have a house, not with desperation, but relaxation. Last year, the real estate agent was very proactive and kept showing me different places. I would just go with the flow. Finally, I found one that I liked and put down a security deposit, and later added even more money. The owner did not agree with my counter offer and wanted to return the deposit to me. I got as far as sending him my bank account details to get them money back. But after just one night, the agent sent me a text and said “Congratulations! The house is yours now.”
“I was really surprised that the former owner agreed with my offer and then I could only agree that seeds can be very powerful when they ripen. I was never stressed about finding this house and really enjoyed the whole process. The more I stay there, the more I marvel about the designer’s attention to details. S/he is really thoughtful and considerate.” Speaking with joy, he gives a beautiful analogy: “My new home is like a brilliant firework show, full of wonders!”

When asked about the seeds of consideration, he spoke without hesitation: “I treat employees and young patients in my clinic with care!”
“During the period of COVID, I bought a lot of air filters and provided face masks to the staff.” His expression softens with gentleness and care when speaking of his child patients.

Planting seeds in a relaxed and playful mood
To conclude Runner’s secrets of implementing the four steps, his tips are: have a clear goal, don’t worry, don’t rush, and don’t have attachment to the outcome. He believes that the result will be far better than what one can imagine when the seeds ripen—it will be too powerful to stop.
Runner’s story is not a dramatic happily ever after tale, but a down to earth one, about serving others’ needs in daily life. His story offers convincing evidence that the seed system is something that can be implemented in life. Even a small act like having stickers available for child patients counts. After listening to the story of Runner, will you consider planting seeds in a relaxed way?
